topic posted Sun, June 4, 2006 - 8:37 PM by  Nazimah
I am vegan and a bellydancer and yogini- not just for fitness but for mind and dancing as well, desparately trying to get into better shape (toning and muscle fitness) and added weight training..I feel as though I am not losing weight/ toning fast enough. I am looking for inspiration and tips to help speed weight loss and lean muscle gain... Any other belly dancers (vegan) out there to share their nutritional expertise.. I am desparate.. : (

Be patient...Sometimes it takes a while to start seeing results. Make sure you are doing cardio before weight training. You want your heart rate to be up before you start resistance. I'm a fitness freak and have been able to roll my belly since I was a child. I have always been extremely interested in belly dancing. I have taken a few classes but have not consistently trained before. I really want to. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I know you live on the other side of the country, but do you know of any good instructors in the SF Bay area/South Bay Area?

Pratically ALL of the tribal bellydancers are in SF! There's Fat Chance Belly Dance, United we Dance, oh so many more that I can't think of the names now, half of Bellydance Superstars are from SF but I don't know how much they teach with all the touring and performing. I'll come up with more and let you know.
You should definately get into it seriously, it's the best workout i can get! and it's so much fun. best of all, you meet the greatest gals in the world. i've got wonderful sisters who have stuck with me through toughest times, and they are the friends that i dance with.

I bellydance and am mostly vegetarian, my doctor is insisting on me not being a vegger (that sounds like I'm lazy, but really not true) I find that i get alot out of roasted soy beans/soy nuts and edemame -- love it too. i eat it all the time and it gives so much energy. i used to eat edemame only when dining out but i found out that it is the easiest thing to cook. (I burn oatmeal, i suck at cooking) Anyway, i like soy nuts better than almonds or walnuts. to me they feel less heavy.
